BTEC Nationals in Business - Post Sixteen

There are many different career paths for those who wish to work within the business sector. These include management, HR, finance, marketing and business information to name but a few, with the opportunity to work both in the UK and internationally.

The Pearson BTEC Nationals in Business are qualifications for post 16 students wanting to continue their education through applied learning, and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, possibly in the business sector.

At Paulet Sixth Form College we offer the Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in Business in year 12 and the Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Business in year 13.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in Business – year 12

The qualification is equivalent in size to 0.5 of an A level and aims to provide an introduction to study of the business sector, normally alongside other level 3 qualifications. Students wishing to take this BTEC will have successfully completed a level 2 programme of learning with GCSEs or vocational qualifications.

Students will study two mandatory units. One unit is a controlled assessment set and marked by Pearsons. The other is internally set and marked.

BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Business – year 13

The qualification is equivalent in size to 1 A level and is normally taken alongside other level 3 qualifications.

Students will study four units, three mandatory units and one optional unit. The four units will comprise of: two units from the BTEC Level 3 Certificate plus a unit which is an *examined unit set and marked by Pearsons and an optional unit set and marked internally.

External assessments are available twice a year and learners will only have one resit attempt during the programme.
